Evaluating physiological progression of chronic tibial osteomyelitis using infrared thermography

چکیده

Medical infrared thermography (IRT) was used as a complementary means for the clinical evaluation of musculoskeletal trauma and progression chronic tibial osteomyelitis. Twenty-two adult patients with medical diagnosis osteomyelitis were followed up by IRT performed along standard radiography. Thermal data affected limb compared those healthy contralateral based on thermal profile lower limbs per guideline (32 °C). Data acquired in following regions limb: proximal tibia, diaphysis, distal using FLIR camera, processed MATLAB®. For active infections, an increase average temperature above + 1.0 °C observed when contralateral. The wound region showed increased (32.3 °C) (31.4 In contrast, latent differences small, generally below 0.3 °C, thus within threshold normality. areas diagnosed reduced blood supply, to − 5.7 normal. Screening for Osteomyelitis Using Thermography in Patients with Diabetic Foot

One of the most serious complications of diabetic foot (DF) is osteomyelitis, and early detection is important. To assess the validity of thermography to screen for osteomyelitis, we investigated thermographic findings in patients with both DF and osteomyelitis. The subjects were 18 diabetic patients with 20 occurrences of DF who visited a dermatology department at a hospital in Tokyo and under...

Double Pulse Infrared Thermography

0. Abstract In this paper we propose a simple enhancing protocol for pulsed infrared thermography. The method is based on stimulating the specimen with two heating pulses separated by a short time interval delta. This approach was tested on several specimens of low and high thermal diffusivity and showed to provide higher thermal contrasts when an optimum interval delta is chosen. The observed ...

Noninvasive diagnosis of seed viability using infrared thermography.

Recent advances in the noninvasive analyses of plant metabolism include stress imaging techniques, mainly developed for vegetative tissues. We explored if infrared thermography can be used to predict whether a quiescent seed will germinate or die upon water uptake. Thermal profiles of viable, aged, and dead Pisum sativum seeds were recorded, and image analysis of 22,000 images per individual se...

Detection of Subsurface Defects using Active Infrared Thermography

Active infrared thermography is a widely used technique in the field of nondestructive testing. The subsurface defects produce non-uniform heat dissipation and this phenomenon is captured by an infrared camera. The phase image gives a prominent description of the defects which are not visible in the captured image sequence. The effect of non-uniform heating and the variation in surface emissivi...

Nondestructive Evaluation of Carbon Fiber Bicycle Frames Using Infrared Thermography

Bicycle frames made of carbon fibre are extremely popular for high-performance cycling due to the stiffness-to-weight ratio, which enables greater power transfer. However, products manufactured using carbon fibre are sensitive to impact damage. Therefore, intelligent nondestructive evaluation is a required step to prevent failures and ensure a secure usage of the bicycle. This work proposes an ...
